Jakarta team shares warm smiles and gifts with the elderly
iSentia's Jakarta office team members visited the Jelambar Nursing Home in June. The nursing home is a haven for the elderly who would otherwise find it difficult to care for themselves. During the visit the iSentia team donated a washing machine as well as snacks and gifts for the residents.
Country head, Luciana Budiman, said the Jelambar Nursing home houses elderly people who are usually brought in by authorities because they are unable to care for themselves, some even trying to earn a meagre living on the streets. The Nursing Home in West Jakarta was built in 1994. Currently there are 85 people over the age of 60 year’s old living in the home, and they just 11 full time carers and eight part-timers.
During the visit, the Jakarta team donated a washing machine, and gifts of snack hampers to the the elderly. ``This was done as the company cares about the community surrounding the office,'' said Luciana.
The nursing home visit was hosted by assistant customer relations manager, iSentia Jakarta, Deddy Hermawan. The elderly were invited to present speeches, sing, recite poetry, or do a drama. The visit provided an opportunity for an elderly woman named Jumi to recite a poem. Her poem was described as simple and very touching as she highlighted how the elderly need attention from the general community.
``This was done as the company cares about the community surrounding the office,'' said Luciana.
Not all the residents could socialise in the common area, those who were physically unable to attend the communal areas were visited by iSentia staff in their rooms. Luciana said it was touching when one man had to ask for help to open his snacks because he could not use his hands properly. All the residents were grateful, for the visit by the iSentia team.
We are proud of our Indonesian team, the community work they do and the concern they show for the elderly.
